9:51 pm - Update (Finally!)
|
So it's been awhile since I've updated this thing, eh? (And the winner of the understatement of the year award goes to... ME!)
I thought about just creating a new username and starting over, but decided that would take way too much work and dedication.
So here goes attempt at updating regularly, take 35.
Don't expect it to last!

You are the grammar Fuhrer. All bow to your authority. You will crush all the inferior people under the soles of your jackboots, and any who question your motives will be eliminated. Your punishment is being the bane of every other person's existence, because you're constantly contradicting stupidity. Everyone will be gunning for you. Your dreams of a master race of spellers and grammarians frighten the masses. You must always watch your back. If only your power could be used for good instead of evil.
What is your grammar aptitude? brought to you by Quizilla

12:12 am - A Few Good Movie Reccomendations
|
As per vagueexistence's request, here's a few good older movies I could think of offhand.
It Happened One Night- Stars Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. A good romantic comedy. Singin in the Rain- Bar none, my favorite movie musical ever. It's just so funny! It's set in the transition from silent movies to "talkies," and get this- every song in it with the exception of I think one is recycled from MGM musicals of that era. Stars Gene Kelly. Casablanca I can't remember if you had saw that one or not. If not, it is an absolute must see. The African Queen Stars Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. An excellent romance. If you're intereted, ask and I'll lend you my copy of the book Katherine Hepburn wrote on the making of this movie once fall semester starts. It's interesting. The Gold Rush Warning: it's silent. It's also friggin hilarious, and well worth watching. Stars Charlie Chaplin.
The following movies are all directed by Alfred Hitchcock. I recommend anything of his (I'm a fan) but these are ones I've seen and especially think you'll like. North by Northwest Vertigo Dial M for Murder Notorious
I could probably add more but my brain's too fried at the moment. I may amend it later, but for now any of my movie loving friends are welcome to pipe up.

Take this quiz here! Megan, your hemispheric dominance is equally divided between left and right brain, while you show a moderate preference for auditory versus visual learning, signs of a balanced and flexible person.
Your balance gives you the enviable capacity to be verbal and literate while retaining a certain "flair" and individuality. You are logical and compliant but only to a degree. You are organized without being compulsive, goal-directed without being driven, and a "thinking" individual without being excessively so.
The one problem you might have is that your learning might not be as efficient as you would like. At times you will work from the specific to the general, while at other times you'll work from the general to the specific. Sometimes you will be logical in your approach while at other times random. Since you cannot always control the choice, you may experience frustrations not normally felt by persons with a more defined and directed learning style.
You may also minimally experience conflicts associated with auditory processing. You will be systematic and sequential in your processing of information, you will most often focus on a single dimension of the problem or material, and you will be more reflective, i.e., "taking the data in" as opposed to "devouring" it.
Overall, you should feel content with your life and yourself. You are, perhaps, a little too critical of yourself - and of others - while maintaining an "openness" which is redeeming. Indecisiveness is a problem and your creativity is not in keeping with your potential. Being a pragmatist, you downplay this aspect of yourself and focus on the more immediate, the more obvious and the more functional.
In a way, this quiz is right on.I feel that the way it speaks about learning applies to many things I do. On the other hand, I feel I am considerably more of a visual learner than I am auditory.
Oh, and the organized part is a total joke.

11:53 pm - Lunar eclipse
|
It's not fair. I really was excited about the lunar eclipse. So, I go out tonight, and what do I see? Not an eclipse- an almost solid mass of clouds. I wanted to see it, darn it! So spent about 15 minutes standing out with Amy, before we decided the clouds weren't going to clear. So now I'm mosquito bitten AND disappointed!
In other words, I'm really excited about the summer program with the Y. Update (and request for feedback) to follow.

10:22 pm - Literary Crushes!
|
Okay, as per Michelle's insistance, I'm going to do a post about literary characters I've had crushes on. Beware, the list is long.
Gilbert Blythe, from the Anne of Green Gables series. As everyone knows, these books are long time favorites of mine. I swear, I'd marry him if he were real. He is Anne's greatest supporter, unflinchingly supporting her decision to attend college in an age and a place where very few did, and cheering her on the whole way. He challenges her, and is not afraid to argue with her, calling her veiws into question on several large issues over the course of the series. Yet he loves her dearly, and sacrifices for her. He gives up the Avonlea school, and takes the Carmody one, so that Anne will not have to leave Marilla in her time of need. He forgives her time and time again. *sigh* He is the perfect guy. He doesn't even gloat over rescuing Anne from her precarious grip on the supports of the Avonlea bridge, even though one doesn't see females clinging there every day.
I too have the Prince Caspian love. I mean, come on. He's utterly capable, and nice. I'm also willing to bet he has some damn sexy arm and back muscles, too. Peter has also been a crush of mine in the past, too.
Julian, from the Forbidden Game trilogy. Guy's gorgeous, and incredibly evil. What could be sexier than that? Only an incredibly evil guy with hope for redemption... which describes him well. I still say Jenny should have ended up with him rater than Tom. It's one of the great literary travesties, I tell you.
Mr. Darcy- Jane Austen style. Other than being the star of a wonderful book, and damn addictive BBC miniseries, he's just a great guy. Another one I'd marry if he were real. I wanna be Lizzy Bennet! (Mark Darcy isn't too shabby, either!)
Bill Weasley. If anyone is still surprised by this one, they don't know me very well at all.
Remus Lupin- He's smart, he's sweet, he's sensitive and I'd imagine he has really sexy eyes.
I know I'm missing some. I might add more later.

Mmmmm. I've just finished baking cookies. Well, not really, they're in the oven as I type this, but the dough's all made up. -I've decided I should bake more often. It really calms me down and makes me happy. I also think I could get really excellent if I tried. -Making something you can eat right away is much more satisfying than pie crust, which was my original plan. Although I do need to bake a pie, soon. I have new techniques I want to try. -Butter and sugar taste really good creamed together. I'm surprised there was any left for the flour. -My mom's new mixer is great. Albeit, the thingy controlling the speeds is a little hard to change. Maybe that will improve with use. -I love my mom's habit of buying all sorts of cooking gadgets and not using them. That was quite possibly the first time that mixer's been used since she got it at Christmas. As my dad put it when I pointed that out, "I think she likes to watch cooking shows more than actually cook." (Food Network is a staple in this household. Out of the four of us, I'm the only one that bothers to ever cook, though.)
